This foundry and pewter company was established in 1980 by Håkon Christian Drøsdal in Sogn og Fjordane and moved to Krøderen in 1985, where it still remains. However, after Håkon passed away in 2009, the family sold the foundry to Arne and Marit Hammerlund of Hammerlund Tinn, whom Håkon had worked with prior to starting his own foundry. The Hammerlund's are committed to keeping the tradition of Askvoll Tinn, as it is one of the few pewter foundries still located in Norway, working with traditional Norwegian design and history.
The mission of Askvoll Tinn is to produce and expand on a collection of pewter products with similar practical functionality and design as the pewter items produced in the period 1635-1830. This was a prolific period for Norwegian pewter production and many items are found today in museums or private collections. Askvoll Tinn works with these museums and private collectors to ensure commitment to these traditional designs as well as dedication to quality.
Each product comes with a little booklet explaining how it would have been used in the past, what year the design represents and where the original is located.
All the pewter products are safe to use for food.
